AND THEY'RE OFF..

The Loggers opened the dual season last weekend with a pair of Northwest Conference competitions against Pacific Lutheran and Willamette.

The Loggers vs. Pacific Lutheran

Using their consistently strong team depth to their advantage, the Puget Sound Loggers picked up a 109.5-95.5 win over the Pacific Lutheran Lutes in a Northwest Conference women's swimming dual on Friday night at the PLU pool in Parkland. On the men's side, the Lutes edged the Loggers 109-96.

On the women's side, the Loggers won five events but more importantly collected a combine 16 second and third place finishes to collect enough points to defeat the Lutes. Amy Polansky (Menomonie, Wis.) took first in the 100 yard breaststroke with at time of 1:09.59 and then nearly took first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.74, just 0.16 seconds behind PLU's Jessie Donovan.

On the men's side, Jackson Kowalski (Keizer, Ore.) edged out PLU's Alex Limoges in the 100-yard backstroke, taking first with a time of 56.49. The Loggers also picked up a victory from Nicholas Allen (Seattle, Wash.) in the 50-yard freestyle (21.86).

The Loggers vs. Willamette

On the men's side, the Loggers won all 11 events while the women won nine of 11 events as the Puget Sound Loggers swept the Willamette Bearcats in a Northwest Conference dual on Saturday at Henry Foss High School in Tacoma.

Freshman Jack Zaharchuck (Portland, Ore.) won a pair of events for the Loggers, taking first in both the 500 Freestyle (5:19.76) and the 200 Freestyle (1:56.49). On the women's side, Katie Wilson (West Linn, Ore.) took first in both the 200 Freestyle (2:06.20) and the 200 Backstroke (2:22.28)

Best in the Northwest

The Northwest Conference released the first top times list of the season this week and the Loggers were well represented. Nicholas Allen currently has the best 50 Freestyle time at 21.86 while Jackson Kowalski is tops in the 200 Back (2:01.91).

On the women's side, Amy Polansky is tops in 100 Breast (1:09.59) and 200 Breast (2:28.35).

The Coach

Chris Myhre returns as head coach of the Logger swim program. A graduate of the University of Hawaii-Manoa, Myhre has coached 71 NAIA All-Americans, 16 NCAA All-Americans, 11 individual NAIA National Champions and led the Loggers to NAIA team titles for women in 1996, 1998 and 1999 and men's titles from 1995-97.
