The Loggers vs. George Fox

It was not the way the fourth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers wanted to clinch sole possession of the Northwest Conference women's soccer title but they got the job done, playing to a scoreless draw at George Fox on Friday afternoon in Newberg, Ore.

The Loggers (18-0-1, 14-0-1 NWC) outshot the host Bruins (11-6-2, 8-5-2 NWC) by a total of 30-5, including seven to zero in the two overtime periods but George Fox keeper Jessica Cardwell made eight saves to collect the shutout.

Freshman Katie Wheeler (Oregon City, Ore.) got the start in net, making two saves before sophomore Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah) took over the second period, making two saves over the final 45 minutes of regulation.

The Loggers also dominated in corner kicks, attempting 11 corners compared to none for the Bruins.

The Loggers vs. Pacific

Senior forward Adrienne Folsom (Lakewood, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) scored a pair of goals in the final regular season contest of her collegiate career but it was the Pacific Boxers who were celebrating at the end, shocking the #4 Puget Sound Loggers, 3-2 in overtime, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon in Forest Grove, Ore.

The Loggers (18-1-1, 14-1-1 NWC) got on the bored first when Janece Levien (Beaverton, Ore.) fed in a pass to Folsom, who finished from five yards out for the 1-0 lead with 21:26 remaining in the first half. The Boxers answered back quickly, coring just 27 seconds later on a shot by Ashley Kanda that got past freshman keeper Katie Wheeler (Oregon City, Ore.). The Boxers made it 2-1 in the 29th minute when Lauren Kanda snuck a shot past Wheeler. The Loggers evened it up shortly before the half when Folsom fired in yet another shot from five yards out.

Neither team was able to get a goal in the second half, forcing the teams into overtime. The Loggers, who outshot the Boxers 48-10 on the game, got off seven shots in the first overtime but they couldn't get a ball past Pacific keeper Sydney Vincent. In the second overtime, it was Ashley Kanda who was the hero for the Boxers, getting off a shot from about two yards out following a corner and putting the ball into the net to hand the Loggers their first loss of 2007.

Wheeler made four saves on the day, playing all 101:53 for the Loggers. Vincent had a strong afternoon for the Boxers, making 20 saves on the day and allowing the two goals by Folsom.
