#4 LOGGERS FORCED TO SETTLE FOR SCORELESS DRAW
NEWBERG, Ore. - It was not the way the fourth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers wanted to clinch sole possession of the Northwest Conference women's soccer title but they got the job done, playing to a scoreless draw at George Fox on Friday afternoon in Newberg, Ore.
The Loggers (18-0-1, 14-0-1 NWC) outshot the host Bruins (11-6-2, 8-5-2 NWC) by a total of 30-5, including seven to zero in the two overtime periods but George Fox keeper Jessica Cardwell made eight saves to collect the shutout.
Freshman Katie Wheeler (Oregon City, Ore.) got the start in net, making two saves before sophomore Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah) took over the second period, making two saves over the final 45 minutes of regulation.
The Loggers also dominated in corner kicks, attempting 11 corners compared to none for the Bruins.
Puget Sound will wrap up the regular season on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Forest Grove, Ore. to take on Pacific.
