LOGGER SOCCER EARNS ACADEMIC HONORS

TACOMA, Wash. - Already among the top players on the field, three Puget Sound Logger soccer players have been honored for their work off the field and in the classroom.  Men's senior defender Andrew Hewitt (Monroe, Wash./Archbishop Murphy) has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team while sophomore goalkeeper Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) and senior forward Adrienne Folsom (Lakewood, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) picked up Second Team honors on the women's side.

Hewitt, an exercise science major with a 3.85 cumulative GPA, anchors the Logger defense that has allowed just nine goals this season and is ranked 19 nationally in team goals against average and 23rd nationally in shutout percentage.  He was just one of two Division III players and the only men's soccer player from the Northwest Conference to be named to the District VIII College Team, which encompasses nine U.S. states and one Canadian province.

On the women's side, the Loggers were represented by Wolfer, a biology major with a 3.86 cumulative GPA, and Folsom, a business major with a 3.42 cumulative GPA.  Wolfer currently leads the NWC and is 25th nationally in goals against average (0.52) for the undefeated Loggers, ranked fourth in the nation.  Folsom, an NSCAA/adidas All-American as a junior, has eight goals and eight assists to her name this season and will graduate as the Loggers all-time leader in game-winning goals.

The CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District and Academic All-America program is run by the College Sports Information Directors of America.  To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average.
