SPLISH-SPLASH
The Loggers swam well at the NWC Sprint Pentathlon and NWC Relay Meet last weekend in Walla Walla but the real season begins this week when they swim against Pacific Lutheran and Willamette in NWC dual meets.
The Loggers Last Weekend
Always among the elite in the Northwest Conference in the pool, the 2007-08 Puget Sound Logger swim program started the season with two strong days of swimming at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. Senior Amy Polansky (Menomonie, Wis.) placed third in the NWC Spring Pentathlon on Friday night and the Loggers took a pair of seconds and a third in the NWC Relays on Saturday.
On Friday night, Polansky swam a combined 3:02.06 in the five-event competition, which consisted of 50-yards each in the butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle as well as a 100-yard freestyle race. Brittany Gresset of Whitworth took first in the event with a combined 2:56.93. Senior Leesa Cotton (Keizer, Ore.) swam well for the Loggers as well, taking ninth place in 3:04.80. On the men's side, Garrett Shields (Anacortes, Wash.) was the highest finisher for the Loggers, taking 10th with a time of 2:44.76.
On Saturday, the swimmers teamed up to swim nothing but relays. The Loggers took first in both the men's and women's 300-yard backstroke relays and put in strong perfomances in the rest of the relays as they finished third in the men's team socring, second in the women's team scoring and second in the mixed relays.
