LOGGER RUNNERS 2ND, 4TH AT NWC CHAMPIONSHIPS

BROOKS, Ore. - Brittany Hodgson (Grants Pass, Ore.), Emily Timmer (Tacoma, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) and Kenna Patrick (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively as the Puget Sound Loggers took second place at the Northwest Conference Cross Country Championships, run at Willamette Mission State Park in Brooks, Ore.  On the men's side, Francis Reynolds (Palo Alto, Calif.) finished fifth individually as the Loggers too fourth in the NWC.

In the women's race, Hodgson was the first of the Puget Sound team to cross the finish line, finishing the six-kilometer course in 21:17.56.  Timmer was less than a half-second befind Hodgson, recording a time of 21:17.87 while Patrick placed sixth with a time of 21:43.44.  The race was won by Willamette's Sarah Zerzan, winner of the 2006 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship.  As a team, the Loggers averaged a time of 22:07.70 for a team score of 58, just 19 points behind Willamette and 63 points ahead of third-place Lewis & Clark.

On the men's side, Reynolds finished the eight-kilometer course in 25:23.17, just about 23 seconds behind Trista Knutson-Lombardo of Willamette.  Trevor Hanlin (Grants Pass, Ore.) was second for the Loggers, finishing 12th in a time of 25:43.22.  As a team, the Loggers were fourth with a team score of 85.  Willamette scored 21 points to repeat as NWC Champion.  Linfield took second with 70 points while Whitworth snuck in for third place with 83 points, just two points ahead of UPS.

The Loggers will head down to Oregon again on Nov. 10 for the NCAA West Regionals at McIver Park in Estacada, Ore.
