LOOKING TOWARDS CONFERENCE

Continuing their run of strong performances at last weekend's Pioneer Open, the Loggers look to be in good shape heading into the NWC Championship on Oct. 27 in Brooks, Ore.

The Loggers Last Weekend

Sophomore Emily Timmer (Tacoma, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) set a new meet record and recorded the best time in school history, completing the 6,000-meter course in 21:24 to win the Pioneer Open on Saturday morning at McIver Park in Portland, Ore. As a team, the Logger women finished first when the Logger men took fifth.

Timmer broke her own school record of 21:25.80, set last season at the NWC Championships in Parkland, Wash. Freshman Kenna Patrick (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) took fourth in her first collegiate race, finishing the race in 22:25. Senior Brittany Hodgson (Grants Pass, Ore.) took eighth with a time of 22:45. The Loggers recorded a team score of 42 to finish 27 points ahead of Johns Hopkins in the team scores.

On the men's side, Trevor Hanlin (Grants Pass, Ore.) set the pace, finishing 14th with a time of 26:01. Francis Reylonds (Palo Alto, Calif.) was 20th with a mark of 26:11 and Zach Stoddard (Los Osos, Calif./Monterey Bay) took 27th with a time of 26:30. As a team, the Loggers finished fifth with 106 points. The men's team title went to Carlteon, with 37 points.

In The Rankings

The Logger women's cross-country team moved up to 19th in the latest national poll. In the West Region poll, the Logger women are ranked second behind Willamette. On the men's side, the Loggers are ranked seventh in the West Region.

The Coach

Mike Orechia leads the Logger cross country program for the 11th season. A 1978 graduate of Springfield College, Orechia also holds a Masters from San Francisco State and has made coaching stops at San Francisco State, Danvers High School and University of Chicago.
