#4 LOGGERS CHOP DOWN PIOS, 3-1
TACOMA, Wash. - The fourth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers stayed undefeated on the 2007 campaign, putting together a 3-1 in over the visiting Lewis & Clark Pioneers in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon on East Athletic Field in Tacoma, Wash. The Loggers were given 15 corner kick opportunities during the game, compared with just one for L&C.
Puget Sound (14-0-0, 10-0-0 NWC) made it 1-0 just 1:32 into the second half when Katie Gillette (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) got her foot on a rebound following a Nora Germano save and booted the ball into the net. In the 76th minute, Janece Levien (Beaverton, Ore.) scored her NWC-leading 13th goal of the season, heading in a corner kick from Kandace Logan (Tacoma, Wash./Barry Univ.) to give UPS the 2-0 lead.
Lewis & Clark joined in the fun in the 82nd minute when Sophie Trick took a pass from Katie Burnett to spoil the Loggers shutout bid and tighten things up a 2-1. In the 88th minute, Nikki Graff (Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley) put the nail in the coffin, firing a bullet from the upper left corner of the box past Germano for a 3-1 Logger victory.
Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) made one save for the Loggers, who limited the Pios to just two shots on goal. Germano made seven saves on the day, with the L&C defense earning a team save as well.
The Loggers will play host to crosstown-rival Pacific Lutheran on Wednesday afternoon as the quest for a sixth straight Northwest Conference title continues. Gametime with the Lutes is set for 3:30 p.m. on Peyton Field in Tacoma.
