LOGGERS EDGE LUTES ON THE LINKS

LAKEWOOD, Wash. - Proving that every single stroke does in fact count, the Puget Sound Loggers edged out the Pacific Lutheran Lutes, 316-317, in a men's golf dual on Sunday afternoon at Oakbrook Country Club in Lakewood, Wash.  The Logger women had a little easier time defeating the Lutes, outshooting PLU, 358-394.

Sophomore Marc Phillips (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) helped the Loggers secure the win over crosstown-rival Pacific Lutheran by shooting 75 while Jordan Hodge (Tucson, Ariz./Tucson) finished the round with a card of 78.  The Lutes had three players shoot 79 to keep it close but Tim Bartz (University Place, Wash./Oregon State) shot a 80 to help the Loggers collect the one-stroke victory.

On the women's side, Maresa Jenson (Whitefish, Mont./Whitefish) had a great afternoon, carding a five-over-par 78 to lead the Loggers to the 36-stroke victory over the Lutes.  Kristine Juhola (Milwaukie, Ore.) finished with an 87 to help the Loggers get the win.

Next weekend, the Loggers participate in the first of three events that help decide the 2008 Northwest Conference title.  The women will travel to Pendleton, Ore. and Wildhorse Golf Course while the men travel to Spokane, Wash. and Spokane Country Club for the NWC Fall Classic.
