Cristofori to Steinway, The Piano's TaleSaturday, Nov. 10, 2007
Listen, discover, and experience pianos from the 18th century to the present in an interactive environment
Ever wonder what Mozart, Haydn, Brahms, and Liszt might have heard from their pianos? How many keys were available? Were there any pedals? Get these questions and more answered by presenters Edwin Good, author of Giraffes, Black Dragons, and Other Pianos and co-curator of the Piano 300 Exhibit at the Smithsonian; Michael D. Reiter, RPT staff technician at University of Puget Sound; Dave Davis, RPT, and a host of performers. Participants will be introduced to six to eight instruments, including a replica of the 1722 Cristofori piano, a Streicher grand dated 1846, a Broadwood dated 1795 (original), a replica Matthias Heilmann, and an 1876 Steinway. Attendees are encouraged to bring music to try out the instruments in the afternoon.
Location: Schneebeck Concert Hall
Time: 10:30 a.m.-4p.m.
