LOOKING TO CONTINUE SEPTEMBER SUCCESS IN OCTOBER

The Loggers faced their toughest test of 2007 last weekend and passed with flying colors, posting a pair of shutouts over Whitman and Whitworth. This week, the Loggers will entertain the Pacific Boxers and the George Fox Bruins.

The Loggers vs. Whitman

With a pair of goals from senior Katie Gillette (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) and 19 of 30 shots on goal, the fifth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers shutout the Whitman Missionaries, 3-0, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers (9-0, 5-0 NWC) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Gillette headed in a pass from Adrienne Folsom (Lakewood, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) to give UPS a 1-0 lead over Whitman (3-4-2, 2-2-1 NWC). Gillette scored again, this time on a penalty kick at the 39:31 mark, to give the Loggers a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Loggers got their final goal in the late minutes of the second half when freshman Serwaah Fordjour (Shoreline, Wash./Shorewood) put up a long cross from the far right side and Folsom finished in front of an open net to give Puget Sound the 3-0 win as they remained undefeated on the 2007 season.

Logger keeper Kallie Wolfer ( Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) made five saves to collect the clean sheet while her Whitman counterpart Courtney Porter made 15 saves but allowed the three goals.

The Loggers vs. Whitworth

Using a goal by senior forward Adrienne Folsom (Lakewood, Wash./Charles Wright Academy), the fifth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers took over first place in the Northwest Conference with a 1-0 win over the tenth-ranked Whitworth Pirates in a NWC women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon at Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma.

The lone goal of the game came in the 40th minute when Folsom took a pass from about 30 yards out and dribbled the ball through the Whitworth defense before finishing with a bullet past Krista Dietz. The Pirates got off 14 shots, compared with seven for the Loggers, but only two of those 14 shots were on goal. Sophomore keeper Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) stopped both of those shots to preserve the shutout for the Loggers.

The game proved to be a physical one with Whitworth called for 16 fouls and the Loggers for nine infractions. The Pirates' Greta Thibodeau was shown a yellow card in the 80th minute following a hard tackle near midfield.

After a weekend of exciting soccer on Peyton Field, the Puget Sound Logger soccer teams were rewarded for their strong play, taking all four of the Northwest Conference weekly awards, as announced by the conference office late Monday.
