#5 LOGGERS TAKE OVER FIRST WITH 1-0 WIN
TACOMA, Wash. - Using a goal by senior forward Adrienne Folsom (Lakewood, Wash./Charles Wright Academy), the fifth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers took over first place in the Northwest Conference with a 1-0 win over the tenth-ranked Whitworth Pirates in a NWC women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon at Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma.
The lone goal of the game came in the 40th minute when Folsom took a pass from about 30 yards out and dribbled the ball through the Whitworth defense before finishing with a bullet past Krista Dietz. The Pirates got off 14 shots, compared with seven for the Loggers, but only two of those 14 shots were on goal. Sophomore keeper Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) stopped both of those shots to preserve the shutout for the Loggers.
The game proved to be a physical one with Whitworth called for 16 fouls and the Loggers for nine infractions. The Pirates' Greta Thibodeau was shown a yellow card in the 80th minute following a hard tackle near midfield.
The Loggers will continue the homestand on Saturday when they play host to Pacific.
