#5 LOGGERS BLANK WHITMAN, 3-0
TACOMA, Wash. - With a pair of goals from senior Katie Gillette (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) and 19 of 30 shots on goal, the fifth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers shutout the Whitman Missionaries, 3-0, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.
The Loggers (9-0, 5-0 NWC) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Gillette headed in a pass from Adrienne Folsom (Lakewood, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) to give UPS a 1-0 lead over Whitman (3-4-2, 2-2-1 NWC). Gillette scored again, this time on a penalty kick at the 39:31 mark, to give the Loggers a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Loggers got their final goal in the late minutes of the second half when freshman Serwaah Fordjour (Shoreline, Wash./Shorewood) put up a long cross from the far right side and Folsom finished in front of an open net to give Puget Sound the 3-0 win as they remained undefeated on the 2007 season.
Logger keeper Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) made five saves to collect the clean sheet while her Whitman counterpart Courtney Porter made 15 saves but allowed the three goals.
The Loggers will be in action again on Sunday afternoon when they play host to 10th-ranked Whitworth in a battle for first place in the NWC.
