TIMMER TAKES FIRST AT SUNDODGER
SEATTLE, Wash. - Sophomore Emily Timmer (Tacoma, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) became the first Logger since 2001 to win the Sundodger Open, hosted by the University of Washington, as the Puget Sound women finished third and the men finished fifth. The race was held at Lincoln Park in West Seattle.
Timmer finished the 6k course in 21:30 making her the first UPS runner to win the event since Dana Boyle did it in 2001, the same year she won the NCAA Division III Championship meet. Senior Brittany Hodgson (Grants Pass, Ore.) had a strong race herself, finishing fifth with a time of 21:52. Liana Roberts (Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) finished 32nd in a time of 23:30 as the Loggers placed third in the team standings, trailing only Simon Fraser and University of British Columbia.
On the men's side, Trevor Hanlin (Grants Pass, Ore.) was the highest finishing Logger, running the 8k course in 25:39 to finish 18th. Francis Reynolds (Palo Alto, Calif.) took 24th with a time of 25:53 while Cam Nakano (Aloha, Ore./Hillsboro) finished the race in 26:39 to finish 55th overall. As a team, the Logger men finished fifth but beat a number of Division II schools in the process.
The Loggers will take next weekend off before heading down to Oregon in two weeks for the Willamette Invitational on Sept. 29 at Bush Park in Salem, Ore.
