#7 LOGGERS WIN NWC OPENER, 2-0
PORTLAND, Ore. - Freshman Alyx Tilley (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia) scored her first collegiate goal and senior Katie Gillette (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) scored her second of the season as the seventh-ranked Puget Sound Loggers defeated the Lewis & Clark Pioneers, 2-0, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer game on Saturday afternoon in Portland, Ore. It was the NWC opener for both schools.
Tilley scored the first goal in the 12th minute when the Pioneer goalkeeper got a hand on an Adrienne Folsom (Lakewood, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) shot following a corner kick and Tilley was in the area to knock in the rebound for a 1-0 Logger lead. The second goal was socred just before the 35 minute mark when Katie Gillette fired a ball over the head of Nora Germano to give UPS the 2-0 lead.
In the second half, the Logger defense took over, limiting the Pios to just two shots, only one of which was on net and required a save by UPS keeper Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline), who collected the shutout for the Loggers.
Puget Sound will return to Tacoma on Sunday afternoon when they play host to Willamette in the first game of a NWC women/men doubleheader. The action is set to begin at Noon on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma.
