#12 LOGGERS CALM STORM, 5-0

TACOMA, Wash. - Taylor Hyde (Sandy, Utah) scored twice as the 12th-ranked Puget Sound Loggers made easy work of the visiting Simpson Storm, winning the non-conference men's soccer game by a score of 5-0 on Friday afternoon on Peyton Field in Tacoma.

Hyde didn't waste much time getting the Loggers (5-0-0) on the board, booting a ball past Storm keeper Josh Youngman in just the seventh minute.  Derek Woodworth (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) joined in on the fun in the 15th minute when Kyle Benson (Lynnwood, Wash./Kamiak) found him in front of the net and Woodworth just tapped the ball in.

Hyde scored his second of the afternoon in the 34th minute and then it was Alex Lehecka (Burlington, Wash./Burlington-Edison) who followed a cross from Greg Swanson (University Place, Wash.) and beat the diving keeper to make it 4-0 Loggers heading into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Loggers gave their reserves much deserved playing time.  In the 87th minute, freshman Cody Levy (Vancouver, B.C./Lord Byng) scored the first goal of his collegiate career to give UPS the 5-0 win.

Pete Van Sant (Santa Cruz, Calif.) was solid in net, making three saves to collect the shutout.

The Loggers will open up Northwest Conference play on Sunday afternoon when they play host to Willamette in the second game of a women/men doubleheader.
