LOGGERS GRILL UP TIGERS, 3-0
LOS ANGELES - Playing in 105 degree weather, the Puget Sound Loggers outshot, outscored and outlasted the Occidental Tigers, 3-0, in a non-conference men's soccer game on Monday afternoon at Occidental College in Los Angeles, Calif.
The Loggers (2-0) got on the board for the first time in the 29th minute, thanks to junior Taylor Hyde (Sandy, Utah/Waterford). Hyde scored again following the break, this time in the 51st minute to give the Loggers a 2-0 lead over the Tigers. Just a few minutes later, Scott Blanchet (Gig Harbor, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) put a ball in the back of the net to give the Loggers the three-goal advantage and the eventual 3-0 win.
Senior All-American Pete Van Sant (Santa Cruz, Calif.) was solid in net, making five saves to collect his second shutout in as many games.
The Loggers return to Tacoma at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening when they take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a non-conference game on East Athletic Field in Tacoma.
