SURPRISE! LOGGERS PICKED TO WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT TITLE.
SPOKANE, Wash. - After winning five straight Northwest Conference titles, the women's soccer coaches decided not to mess with history, projecting the Puget Sound Loggers to win a sixth straight title in 2007. On top of topping the preseason coaches poll, the Loggers have also been ranked 14th nationall in the NSCAA/adidas preseason poll and 21st in the D3kicks.com preseason Top 25.
The Loggers, who finished 15-1-4 overall and 13-2-1 in the NWC last season, return the 2006 NWC Offensive Player of the Year in Adrienne Folsom (Lakewood, Wash./Charles Wright) as well as All-NWC selection Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline).
Willamette finished second in the coaches poll, receiving two first-place votes and 72 points overall. Whitworth was third, followed by Whitman, Pacific Lutheran, George Fox, Linfield, Pacific, and Lewis & Clark.
The Loggers will open the 2007 season on Aug. 31 at home against Northwest University and will then be tested early when they play host to UC Santa Cruz in an important West Region game on Sep. 2.
