Phone set programming

Number of Rings

OIS can program from 1 to 8 rings on your phone set before the call is forwarded to your voice mailbox, just e-mail phones@ups.edu with your preference. Please include the following information with your request:

  • your name and department
  • your building and room number
  • your phone extension

Multiline phone set features

For all multi-line phone sets, OIS can also program the many different buttons on your set with various phone numbers and extensions, each with an associated functionality, see below for examples. Here is an Excel spreadsheet you can fill out and then e-mail to phones@ups.edu with your preferred layout. This template will also work as a label for your phone set when printed out. Please also include the information mentioned at the top of this page.

Please note, the first three buttons should remain your extension. For a full list of features consult the User Manual for your phone set model. The following are the most popular choices.

  • Speed Dial - a one button activation to dial any on or off-campus number, including voicemail (1500).
  • Busy Indicator - a one button activation to dial any on-campus extension (speed dial), but also displays when that extension is in use.
  • Bridged Appearance - button acts as another extension to make calls from or receive calls on.
  • Send All Calls Directly To Voicemail - a one button activation to send your calls directly to voice mail without having your phone set ring. This feature is useful for when you're busy or away from your desk.
  • Last Numbered Dialed - dials the last set of key strokes made (redial).

If no remarks on the layout are made, a Busy Indicator feature will be programmed for each requested extension.
