Requesting a new extension and phone set

Cabling support requirements

An empty, ivory colored wall jack (usually labeled with a "V") must be available to have a new extension installed. There must be a receptacle present for the cable to plug into and not just a cover over the hole.

If there is no wall receptacle available, we will need to provision a new one. This work is done by an outside contractor and typically runs anywhere from between $400 and $900.

Requesting a new extension

If a new phone set is needed, the cost is $100. To request a new extension, please e-mail phones@ups.edu, and include the following information:

  • your name and department
  • your building and room number
  • the jack number where you want the new extension installed
  • indicate whether you need the new extension to have long distance calling capability
  • if you need long distance on the new extension, please provide a budget number for long distance calls to be charged to and a description, of up to a 29 characters in length, for the monthly departmental long distance report.
  • the budget to charge for the phone set.
  • since phone numbers are a finite resource, please suggest any unused number from your department for the new extension if possible.
