Puget Sound Alumnus Neal Berntsen to Perform

Pittsburgh, Penn. – Tacoma native Neal Berntsen, a Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) trumpeter, will present a master class and performance on Monday, April 2, at 5:30 p.m. in the university's school of Music. He will be performing music from his most recent recording "Trumpet Voices"on the Four Winds label. The event is free and open to the public.
A 1978 graduate of Washington High School and 1982 graduate of University of Puget Sound, both in Tacoma, Berntsen became a member of the PSO in 1997 and is currently a faculty member of both Carnegie Mellon University and Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and previously served on the faculty of Valparaiso University in Indiana. Berntsen has performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, as well as chamber ensembles in the United States and Europe.
Berntsen remarked, “It’s been a decade since I last performed in my hometown and I am really excited and looking forward to not only presenting a master class and performing at my alma mater but also working with aspiring student trumpeters.” Additionally Berntsen will be performing at Benaroya Hall in Seattle on Tuesday, April 3, with the PSO as part of the Orchestra’s 2007 West Coast tour.
The Berntsen family – Neal, his wife Karen and their children Molly, Jacob and Charlie – resides in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh.
