Bash Trash Event Brings Campus and Community Together to Reduce Waste
November 9, 2006
Tacoma, Wash. – We all care about the environment, right? Well, as the popular expression goes, It's time to “put your money where your mouth is” and kick up sustainability initiatives on campus. The University of Puget Sound recently received a grant to continue building its sustainability initiatives through a campus-community partnership. Since then, a Waste Reduction Task Force has explored ways to make the campus and surrounding neighborhoods more sustainable, and our city more livable, by reducing the amount of garbage the university produces.
Now the task force is asking for the community’s support and help by inviting them to attend Bash Trash on Wednesday, Nov. 15 in the Wheelock Student Center Rasmussen Rotunda. Beginning at 6 p.m., those in attendance will have an opportunity to collaborate with students, staff, campus neighbors and area businesses to review strategies designed to reduce solid waste. Business owners can also take part in a special session designed for their needs including learning easy and practical ways to save money and resources by reducing waste.
The event will conclude with a special presentation by Gifford Pinchot III, president and co-founder of the Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI). BGI offers a master’s degree program in sustainable, socially-responsible, and economically successful business practices. Pinchot is also the grandson of the first chief of the United States Forest Service.
