Logger Alumna Wins Portland Marathon

PORTLAND, Ore. - Danita Erickson, former Puget Sound cross country and track star, and current Logger Club board member, won the Portland Marathon on Sunday with a time of 2:53.14, nearly five minutes faster than her closest competitor. While at University of Puget Sound, Erickson was a five time All-American.
Erickson, a 1994 graduate, averaged a pace of 6:37 for each of the 26.2 miles on Sunday. While at Puget Sound, Erickson was an All-American in cross country in both 1993 and 1994. The Logger women's cross country team won four consecutive NAIA national titles from 1992-95. Erickson also earned Academic All-American honors in 1994.
On the track, Erickson earned All-American honors in the 800-meter dash in 1993 and the 800-meter dash and 1500-meter run in 1994. She still holds the school record in the 800, having recorded a time of 2:09.44 on May 15, 1993 in Seattle. Erickson is also the 1994-95 winner of the Alice Bond Award For Outstanding Female Athlete.
