September 19, 2006
TACOMA, Wash. – University of Puget Sound Assistant Professor of Music (violin) Maria Sampen will be joined by her husband, university affiliate artist Timothy Christie, and others to present the Maria Sampen and Friends faculty recital at Schneebeck Concert Hall on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 7:30 p.m.
“This concert brings together a unique mix of musicians, including two married couples, two of my current students at Puget Sound, and our good friend and cellist, Sally Singer,” says Sampen. Pianist Winston Choi, currently on the faculty at Oberlin Conservatory (OH), his wife, violinist Minghuan Xu, and students Daniil Davydov ’08 and Zo Manfredi ’07 round out the performers.
The evening’s program consists of some of Sampen’s favorites performance pieces: Bach’s Concerto in D minor for Two Violins; Graceful Ghost Rag by William Bolcom; Sonata in F minor, opus 80, by Prokofiev; and Brahms’ Piano Quintet.
