RECRUITING

I am pleased to hear of your interest in the University of Puget Sound and our varsity tennis team.

We are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III and the Northwest Conference (NWC). We have six indoor courts. We open the season with a meeting in the fall to organize fall practice, work out schedules, and plan conditioning programs and ladder challenges. During the fall semester, a total of 12 practices are held, giving the players and myself a chance to get to know one another and to keep a competitive game. Formal practices begin in January. Matches begin in February and continue through the spring until the last weekend in April when the NWC Conference Championships are held.

Our practice sessions and matches are scheduled to allow for a minimum of class conflicts. Our assistant tennis coach is also available to help with practices, coaching and traveling. We will work hard to help each player improve as much as possible.

Financial aid in the form of academic and need based grants, guaranteed student loans, college work-study and a host of other resources is available to qualified students. You will need to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 1, 2007, for priority consideration. You may obtain this form from your high school counselor or from our financial aid office by calling 253-879-3214 or 800-396-7192.

I believe that getting a good education at the University of Puget Sound is your first priority, and participation in athletics secondary. Academics and athletics can complement each other and provide student-athletes with exciting and rewarding college experiences. Good luck to you in all your endeavors. I welcome the opportunity to meet or talk with you. Please call or write if you have any questions.
