RECRUITING

Men's Soccer at the University of Puget Sound

The University of Puget Sound men’s soccer program is a perennial contender for a Northwest Conference title boasting a .747 winning percentage over the past five years and garnering several honors including 10 All Americans.

In 13 years, Head Coach Reece Olney has compiled an impressive over all record of 146-71-22.  Under his leadership, the program has captured two NWC titles and advanced to the NCAA Championship two times.  Coach Olney is a respected club coach in the area and is highly regarded for his involvement in the Olympic Development Program (ODP).  As a result of his tutelage, he has developed a loyal following among soccer alumni and parents.

Academic Success

Puget Sound is ranked among the top 60 liberal arts institutions in the nation and competitive admission standards with incoming first year students averaging an impressive 1246 for SAT scores and 3.58 in grade point average.  Success off the field and in the classroom is a top priority for our coaching staff and student-athletes.  Over the past five years, there have been six NSCAA All-American Scholar Athletes, and 13 All-Region Scholar Athletes.   We believe that with motivation and time management skills athletes at the University of Puget Sound can achieve success in both academics and soccer.

Program Goals

Puget Sound Soccer competes as a Division III member of the NCAA and the Northwest Conference.  Our goal is to compete for the national title and be consistently ranked both regionally and nationally.  Our travel schedule affords us the opportunity to expose players to the highest levels of competition and prepares us for post season play.

Team Selection and Player Profiles

Coach Olney maintains a roster of approximately 20-25 players each year.  Open tryouts are held in mid-August with games beginning September 1.  Team selections are highly competitive and no spots are guaranteed.  Players have generally played for elite club soccer programs and may have been involved with the Olympic Development Program in addition to a successful high school career.  Students who want to compete at a national level and challenge for conference titles should consider Puget Sound.  Our players are committed athletes who are willing to train independently year round and who seek academic success.

Financial Assistance

Academic merit and need-based financial assistance is available for qualified student-athletes.  Approximately 85% of our students qualified for merit-based and/or need-based funding.  For information about scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study opportunities, please contact the Office of Admission or the Office of Financial Aid.
