Fall 2007
Kids Can Do!
The end of the semester brought the Kids Can Do! Winterfeast program, a celebration of family, to Wheelock. Mentors spent time with their child and their family over a wonderful dinner, a visit from Santa and an exchange of gifts. Music was provided by three very talented Puget Sound students, Ross Becker, Luke Borsten and Jasper Tollefson. They were joined by 12 year old ZyIon Houston, one of the kids in the Kids Can Do! program who is also an ace drummer. Thirty one children joined us for this special evening and all benefited from the support and generosity of Phi Delta Theta, Gamma Phi Beta, Sigma Chi, Todd/Phibbs, Women's Soccer Team, Women's Basketball Team, Dining Services and the CIAC staff.
Blood Drive
Alpha Phi and Sigma Nu sponsored a campus blood drive on December 4 that had the highest number of signups (over 150) that we have ever seen! Many thanks to both Greek houses for their hard work. This was a huge success!
Food Salvage and Staff Senate
The end of the year brought about another first for CIAC. Food Salvage partnered with the Staff Senate to organize an all-campus canned food drive. The result was amazing! More than 1200 cans of food were donated and delivered to three area shelters, the Tacoma Rescue Mission, YWCA and Guadalupe House. Many thanks to the members of our campus community for coming through in such a strong way.
What's coming up for spring, 2008?

etc. Tutoring Program
Empowerment Through Collaboration
CIAC, in collaboration with Tacoma Public Schools, has created a tutorial program designed to assist area students to succeed in their academic endeavors and to also do well when taking the state-mandated WASL. The program is an on-campus tutoring program and will welcome Puget Sound students who wish to tutor but who do not have a car.
Tutoring is now available on Wednesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 in WSC201 and Saturday mornings from 10 to noon in Mc107. Contact Alicia Vasey for more information.
"Kids Can Do!"
The Kids Can Do! program, a youth mentoring program, is always looking for new mentors. If you are interested in mentoring, please contact the coordinators via e-mail.
The KCD Coordinators will be available to talk to new and returning students about mentoring. Just give us a call.
Call the KCD coordinators at 253.879.3767 for further information.
CIAC Outreach
Please welcome Nadia Engelbrecht as Editor of CIAC's Service Scene. If you or your organization, residence hall or floor would like to be recognized for your involvement in our community, please send an e-mail with the details of your project(s) and it will be noted in the Service Scene newsletter.
Look for CIAC's Events Coordinators, Lyndsay Pollock and Bowman Leigh to provide our campus with information about the various activities and events that they will be organizing.
Blood Drives
CIAC will be working with Cascade Regional Blood Services to facilitate two blood drives during the spring semester. The first drive will be held on February 7 from 11:30 am - 6 pm and February 8 from 9-3 pm. Hosted by Harrington Humanities Floor, it promises to be a successful way to begin the new year. Look for the sign-up tables in the Wheelock Student Center.
