Alumni Sharing Knowledge (ASK) Network Join or update your ASK information now, or read on for more information.
The ASK Network is a group of Puget Sound graduates who have volunteered to assist students and recent alumni in their search for information about specific careers and graduate school.
Puget Sound's office of Career and Employment Services promotes the ASK Network as a valuable source of information for students and recent alumni who are interested in exploring career options with professionals in specific fields.
What is the principal job of an ASK Volunteer? ASK volunteers make themselves available as consultants to any student or recent graduate of Puget Sound. The level of contact is negotiable, but a common consulting function is to conduct an informational interview. This valuable career exploration tool allows people to learn about career fields of interest to them, the organizations they may wish to join, and the level of education and experience required to enter a field. People who make contact are usually seeking advice on career and graduate school issues and choices. Some might ask if you would be willing to have them shadow you at your workplace for part of a day so they can learn the realities of a career choice.
How do people contact ASK Volunteers? Students and alumni may research the list of ASK Volunteers via ASK Online or by stopping by Career and Employment Services. If you are having difficulty using ASK Online, or would like to do a more complex search, please ask a staff member for help.
Most alumni prefer phone or e-mail for the initial contact, but some would rather be contacted by letter. Some prefer to be contacted at home, others at their place of work.
Is this a job placement service? Informational interviews are not job interviews and we tell this to students and alumni using the ASK Network. The purpose of ASK is to give students and alumni the chance to learn from the knowledge and experience ASK volunteers possess. Although sometimes an ASK connection can lead to specific opportunities, we ask students and alumni not to confuse the initial contact with a job interview.
