Born and raised in Helena, Montana, Jennifer came to Puget Sound in 1999. Throughout college, Jennifer was active in student government and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. In addition, she was a competitive debater (CEDA and parliamentary debate), an orientation leader, a campus tour guide, and held a variety of on-campus jobs.

Jennifer found her passion in international politics: she studied abroad at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, finished her Politics and Government degree in spring 2003, and moved to Ukraine as a Peace Corps Volunteer that fall. Jennifer taught English in southern Ukraine, where she learned Russian, met her husband Alexander, and learned how to make a mean pot of borsht. After finishing her Peace Corps service, Jennifer spent a semester studying Political Science at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary before returning to the US and to her alma mater.
