Scheduling Appointments in Counseling, Health and Wellness Services

You may call for an appointment at any time during the hours that CHWS is open. All routine (non-urgent) appointments should be scheduled several days in advance. Any flexibility you offer in your schedule will increase the chances of finding an early appointment time.

For medical appointments you should call early in the day to have the best choice of times available. If no appointment slots are open that accommodate your schedule you will be offered referrals to community providers.

Counseling appointments typically require a wait of a day or more. If you have a preference about what counselor(s) you would like to see please let the front desk staff know of that. If you have a need for an urgent consultation the counseling staff maintains Walk In hours daily from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

Psychiatric appointments are made by referral from one of the other CHWS providers. If you think you need a psychiatric appointment a CHWS counselor or medical provider must first see you.

If you need to cancel or re-schedule your appointment, please call CHWS (253.879.1555) at your earliest convenience to let us know of the change. We really value your giving us this notice, because it enables another student to utilize your appointment time.

Fees for no-showing an appointment at CHWS
As with any doctor's office, patients are charged when they do not appear for an appointment. Students scheduled for medical slots of 30 minutes or longer who fail to cancel an appointment they do not use will be charged $25. The same is true for no-showing a counseling appointment: $25 will be charged to your student account. No-showing a psychiatric appointment will result in a charge of $50 if it was a brief follow-up appointment and $100 if it was an hour-long psychiatric evaluation.

Repeated no-shows
Being trusted to manage one's own medical and counseling appointments is a privilege. The majority of students take excellent advantage of the opportunity for on-campus healthcare and enjoy this responsibility. Occasionally, students may develop a pattern of no-showing appointments, or of cancelling them at the very last minute, meaning that treatment cannot be provided to another student at that time. In these cases, CHWS reserves the right to revoke a student's appointment privileges. This student would not be denied urgent care if needed, but would be referred to a private practitioner off-campus for their ongoing care.
