Pandemic Flu PreparednessPandemic influenza is a global outbreak of disease from a new influenza virus that is unlike past influenza viruses. A new influenza virus could be much more serious than those seen during the typical flu season. Because most or all people would have little or no natural resistance to a pandemic virus, large numbers of persons around the world can be infected. The current Avian "Bird" Flu is a new influenza virus that could become a pandemic flu. Counseling, Health and Wellness Services is working closely with the Tacoma/Pierce County Health Department to monitor and coordinate plans for the response to a possible influenza or flu pandemic.
