Originally from England, Jannie has spent much of her life in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. She worked in Germany and Cyprus, and for NATO in Paris and in Belgium as a bi-lingual secretary/interpreter/translator, prior to coming to the United States. Jannie received her BA in Modern Languages (French and German) and in Communication and Theatre Arts from the University of Puget Sound and later received her MEd in Counseling from Puget Sound. In 1996 Jannie received a Fulbright grant to Japan and in 1999 received a second Fulbright grant to Germany.

Prior to taking the position as Director of International Programs in 1991, Jannie was Graduate Fellowships Advisor and assistant to the Director of the Honors Program for 5 years. As director of International Programs, Jannie has overall responsibility for all Puget Sound study abroad programs and services to international students and scholars. Jannie also serves on two national advisory councils for study abroad and has gone on several site visits to programs. (She hastens to add that her overseas travel is tightly scheduled - she still has clear memories of an advisory council visit to Australia and New Zealand universities that involved 13 flights in 18 days!).

Jannie notes that International Programs has grown significantly, with over 250 students now studying abroad annually! She happily reports that there is never a dull moment in International Programs - no two days ever have the same routine. The times she most looks forward to are the visits from her returning study abroad students, who always have such wonderful experiences to share with the staff in the office.

Jannie and her husband Ted have been married for 39 years and have 3 grown children, two granddaughters and one grandson. Jannie is an avid news buff, following national and international news in print, on the web and on television. She enjoys reading histories and biographies.
