Admission to the School of Music, Ensemble Auditions

Piano Student With Teacher Tanya StambuckAs a school of music at a liberal arts institution, we are devoted to preparing students for careers in music and to offering opportunities for all students who seek rewarding music experiences and continued study, regardless of major.

Visit our Audition Application page to learn about audition dates, locations, and requirements.  We hold auditions both on and off campus (see the dates and locations in the right side bar of this page).  You also may submit a recording, either on CD or as an audio file.

Admission to the major requires an audition.

Want to apply for a music scholarship?  By auditioning for the major you automatically will be considered for a scholarship.  Don’t plan to major in music?  You still are eligible (half of our music scholarships are awarded to students who major in another field).  Follow the same instructions for the major and specify your interests on the audition form.

All but two of our ensembles require auditions as well (University Chorale and University Band do not require auditions).  Ensemble auditions are held annually during new student orientation week or the first week of classes.  Follow the link on the navigation bar to the left ("Ensemble Auditions 2008") to learn more.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Music scholarships are available to students of music regardless of their major.  These are competitive awards, based on audition.  Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid when applying for a music scholarship.  The School offers music scholarships for all band and orchestra instruments, voice, piano, organ, and harpsichord.  Music scholarships are contingent upon admission to the University as a full-time student.  Information on other University financial aid sources and Financing Your Education are available through the Office of Financial Aid.
