Michael Veseth is Robert G. Albertson Professor and Director of the International Political Economy Program at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington USA, where he has taught since 1975.  Veseth is currently researching a book on the global wine market.  The working title is The Future of Wine: Globalization, Two Buck Chuck and the Revenge of the Terroiristes. His blog, The Wine Economist provides a peek at where this work is going.

Professor Veseth is an authority on the political economy of globalization.  He has taught at the American Institute on Political and Economic Systems (Prague, 2005, 2006) and at the Bologna Center of the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (Bologna, Italy, 1997).  He was Academic Advisor to the educational website for the PBS/WGBH series, The Commanding Heights: The Battle for the World Economy (2002).

An economist by training, Professor Veseth is author, editor or co-author of more  than a dozen books, including Globaloney: Unraveling the Myths of Globalization (Rowman & Littlefield, 2005), Introduction to International Political Economy 3/e (with David Balaam Prentice Hall, 2005), The New York Times's Review of the 20th Century: The Rise of the Global Economy (Fitzroy Dearborn Publishers, 2002), Selling Globalization: The Myth of the Global Economy (Lynne Rienner Publishers, 1998) and Mountains of Debt: Crisis and Change in Renaissance Florence, Victorian Britain, and Postwar America (Oxford University Press, 1990).

Professor Veseth's trilogy of books on globalization has drawn considerable attention.  Selling Globalization presents a critique of pro-globalization policies and rhetoric based upon the instability of global finance.  The New York Times volume traces the "double movement" of globalization in the 20th century using more than 500 newspaper articles that span the 20th century.  Globaloney completes the series by presenting a critique of anti-globalization rhetoric and examining the diversity of globalization effects on the ground as opposed to the broad generalizations of popular theory.

Professor Veseth has received a number of teaching awards. His book Globaloney, was named a Best Business Book of 2005 by Library Journal.
