Welcome

Welcome to the Web site of the Department of English at the University of Puget Sound. Thanks for visiting. A menu to the left offers a range of information about the department, the professors, the courses, and what’s required for the English major and minor.

The menu also has links to sites that describe a variety of pursuits available to English majors after they graduate. Our graduates have gone on to become high-school teachers, college professors, lawyers, editors, marketing specialists, published writers, and literary agents. They have pursued careers in the U.S. and abroad, in corporate and educational settings, in small businesses and non-profit organizations.

Alumni of the Department of English
We’re proud of you, and we like hearing about your travels, your families and friends, your careers, and other alums you know. Drop us an email or a postcard. If you’re in Tacoma, stop by the department and see us.

Eighteen of us belong to the Department of English faculty. We teach English, American, Irish, African American, Asian American, and Anglophone literatures. We teach creative writing, classic and contemporary rhetoric, gay and lesbian literature, popular literature, and literature in translation. We publish books and articles; poems, short stories, and novels; and book reviews. We edit journals, anthologies, encyclopedias, and collections of scholarship. Most of all, though, we like teaching courses on literature, rhetoric, and creative writing to undergraduates at the University of Puget Sound. To find out more about what each of us teaches, writes, and publishes, please visit our individual Web pages.

Our real home is on the third floor of Wyatt Hall on the southwest border of the campus. Please visit us there, too.

Sincerely,
