TELEPHONES
Each
residence hall room is equipped with a private telephone.
All calls on campus can be made by dialing the appropriate 4-digit
extension. Local calls outside of the University can be made by simply
dialing "9" plus the 7-digit number.
To
place a long distance telephone call, dial "9" plus "0" plus
the area code and the seven digit number. An
operator will come on the line and allow you to place a collect call, credit
card call, or a third party billing. Through
AT&T, the University offers ACUS, a special discounted long distance calling
service for students. To use it,
simply make phone calls from campus phones using individually assigned,
confidential ID numbers. There is
no complicated application process or fee.
Calling rates are lower than rates charged by other long distance
companies and much cheaper than collect calls.
Please remind residents that they are NOT allowed to accept collect calls.
Residents
should contact the Telephone Services Coordinator if they
find themselves in need of longer telephone extension cords or wish to add an
extra telephone jack to their house (extension cords cost $10.00 and jacks cost
about $50.00). Residents should not
attempt to plug more than one telephone into one jack, as the telephone system
is not set up to handle such adapters.
All
telephones should have a campus emergency number sticker on them.
If you find one that doesn’t, you can pick up a replacement sticker at
Security Services.
If
repairs are needed on a telephone or if there are problems with telephone
service, complete a Telephone Services Request (available at Student
Development). Residents should not call the telephone company!
Telephone repairs should not be written on Facilities Services
Work Orders.
You will also
receive information to advise students about the Voice Mail system.
Any telephone problems should be reported directly to Wil Rodriguez at
x3227.
