The purpose of this test is to give you (and us!) as accurate an idea as possible of what level your French is at right now.

In order to accomplish this, it is important that you do the test as is, without using outside resources (for example, dictionaries, French textbooks, help from friends, etc.), without trying to go back to correct answers you have already given that turn out to be incorrect, etc. You are not taking the test for a grade that will be on your permanent record; you are trying to figure out which level French course you would get the most out of.

In a similar manner, it is self-defeating to give incorrect answers on purpose in order to get a lower score so as to get a recommendation to enroll in a course that is below your real level of skill in French.

In the long run, skewed test results may give an undesirable placement level for you - place higher than you actually should because you used outside resources during the test, and you will find yourself in over your head in a class that is too advanced for you; place lower than you actually should because you gave wrong answers on purpose, and you will find yourself in a class that wastes your time (and your professor's!) and your money, and in which you will make little real progress in French.

Answer honestly and seriously, to the best of your ability, and, if possible, have some fun with this.
